The
first run of beer for the new beer door
(more to follow)
We'll start with imports and move to
domestic. Some of these beers need no explanation, others we've
included some kind of description. I believe we've brought in most
items that were requested and that we could get out hands on. Others
may be available in the future and some we just don't know.
Rochefort Trappist Brewery
The Abbey of St-Remy, in the southern part of Belgium, was founded
in 1230, and the monks began to brew beer sometime around 1595. The
beautiful small brewery in the abbey, Rochefort Trappistes, is one
of only seven Trappist breweries in the world and makes full-bodied,
deeply flavored dark ales. They are bottle-conditioned and among the
world's most highly respected beverages.
Rochefort "10" or
Blue Cap-- Great strength balanced by a complexity of flavors
and firm malt backbone. The bouquet covers a wide range: port wine,
leather, apricots, oak, spices - a deeply intriguing beverage.
Gold Medal—World Beer
Championships 2004, 2006
Rochefort
"8" or Green Cap--the flavor is vigorous
and complex, with firm body to support the strength. The aroma has
elusive notes of fresh fruit, spice, leather, and figs.

Championships 2004, 2006
Orval Trappist Ale--
, often referred to as The Queen of
Trappists. It was first made in 1931, and has a complex and
unusual flavor and aroma produced by a unique strain of yeast. The
beer is light in color, slightly cloudy, and has a large, foamy
head. There is a complex aroma of leather, horse blanket, spice, and
many other earthy components. 6.2%
ABV
Blanche de Bruxelles
Witbier--
is a very old type of beer, a specialty of the farm-breweries of old
Brabant. The master brewers used their very best crops to make this
beer. The natural spice aromas of coriander and bitter orange peels
are added during the brewing process. The brewing method, which
includes infusion, is very slow. The beer, which is not filtered, is
bottled and refermented with yeast and brewing sugar. You need only
take a sip of this delicious drink to appreciate the fresh and
mellow flavor with its hint of orange. It is really not like any
other beer.
Mac Queen's
Nessie Red
Ale--This isn't really
Scottish; it's from Schloss Eggenburg brewery in Austria (best known
for Samichlaus). It isn't even red, despite its claim to be an
"original red ale." Gebraut Aus Whiskymalz: brewed from whiskey
malts. Beer Advocate categorizes it as a scotch ale/wee heavy, while
ratebeer calls it a smoked beer, which is way off (it's only faintly
smoky).
Check their websight out. We'll be ordering new beers from
these guys.
Jolly Pumpkin Calabaza
Blanca

Lakes, T.C.B. is a truly quaffable beer.

At the height of the heat in the heart of the summer, we felt the
only cure was a raging mouthful of fresh Hops and Malt. Caution: May
remove enamel from teeth. Alcohol 7.5% by volume
New Holland
Red Tulip
Ale--A red ale with rich
and smooth flavors of malted barley, balanced by underlying hints of
dark fruit. Brewed in homage to our hometown tulip festival, Red
Tulip evokes spring's renewing spirit. Excellent with roasted pork,
red meats and dried fruit.
Southern Tier
IPA--Down
the lips and on the tongue...Ah, tas-TEE! There's more of a coppery
feel on the palate, and hops are less pronounced in the flavor than
they were in the smell. Very well balanced and palatable, quite
smooth and mellow, a vastly drinkable IPA, indeed.
Atwater
Mai-Bock--A
traditional German helles bock, golden in color and brewed with only
the finest imported malt and hops. The distinct malty sweetness is
balanced by a pronounced hop finish. Brewed to Welcome the Spring
Season. 7.5% ABV
Avery

black porter, with a surprise twist - it's dry-hopped!! They've
expanded the porter category a bit, adding a delightful, dry hop
aroma to blend with the sweet caramel and chocolate characteristics
of a Robust Porter.
Three beers that
are distributed by one of the BIG THREE. This first one is
getting quite a bit of notice.
Wild Blue
Blueberry

Brewing team carefully selected a blend of hops and barley malt to
ensure they complemented and balanced Wild Blue's dominant blueberry
notes, resulting in a robust and aromatic beer with a refreshing,
palate-cleansing finish. Brewed with a blend of German hops from the
Hallertau region in Bavaria and classic Aroma hops from the
Willamette Valley in the Pacific Northwest.
